Sea Shepherd NYC Beach Clean Up at Rockaway Beach - Rockaway, NY

Sun, 13 Jul, 2014 2:00 PM - 5:30 PM

Join Sea Shepherd Conservation Society NYC volunteers for a beach clean up at Beach 116 on the Rockaways. Millions of pounds of garbage are dumped into the oceans every year, threatening marine wildlife that may mistake it for food and starve to death.

We will meet on the boardwalk off Beach 116 (look for Sea Shepherd Jolly Roger flag).

We will clean the beach from 2 PM to 5 PM, then sort the trash on the boardwalk to show people what we found and set aside the plastics for The Vortex Project, Sea Shepherd's partnership with Bionic Yarn to turn plastic into clothing.

If you cannot locate us, please call 516.939.8029. Don’t forget water and sunscreen. We will provide bags and work gloves. Please wear a Sea Shepherd shirt if you have one. We look forward to seeing you there.

DIRECTIONS: A Train (Far Rockaway bound - not the Lefferts Boulevard) to The Broad Channel stop. Get off the train and wait on the same platform for the Shuttle Train (Gray) that is going to Rockaway Park-Beach 116. Get off at the Beach 116 stop, exiting the station and turning left and walk to the boardwalk. Or take the Q53 to Rockaway Park Beach 116 St.
